Reflection
Jesus is the Lord, but I have to proclaim him as my personal Lord who governs all my life. to submit my life under the Lordship of Jesus is not slavery but a privilege. It is not enough for Jesus to be in us. It is necessary that he sits on the throne of our life. Jesus has everything in his hands, and nothing escapes his power, but that’s not enough. We ought to acknowledge him as the Lord of our life so that he can take authority over us. Each one of us has his/her own kingdom where we legislate, govern and decide as rulers. Our conscience and individuality reclaim exclusive territory that only we know and have access to. Our freedom gives us the right to reserve certain aspects of our life which are ours in a very personal way.
To proclaim Jesus as Lord and King means to surrender to him our throne and acknowledge his authority in all the areas of life: work, money, sexuality, family, future, desires, decisions, values, etc. It also includes submitting our fears, wounds and frustrations under his power. When we proclaim Jesus as Lord of all our life, salvation is made effective in us, for if by sin we rebelled against God with a “coup d'état,” now proclaiming his Lordship we give him back what we had usurped. Therefore, St Paul affirms that to be saved we need to confess Jesus as Lord which means that he now exercises the executive, legislative and judicial power over our lives.
Prayer: Jesus, today I accept your Gospel as the rule of my life and you as the model I will follow and imitate. I proclaim you as Lord, my Lord, who has all authority over me. I acknowledge that you, and you alone, will exercise executive, legislative, and judicial power in my life. I submit my kingdom to your Kingdom; I surrender my whole life to you, forever. And as a sign, I give you my life and kneel to acknowledge your total authority over me.
