Grief Support

Grief support from a Catholic perspective is the Church accompanying those who mourn with prayer, presence, and compassion, helping them bring their sorrow to God rather than carry it alone.

I walk with you in your grief, offering prayer, presence, and the hope found in Christ, so you never have to carry your loss alone.

Approach to Family Ministry

Grief support in the Catholic Church is not about “fixing” pain—it’s about walking with people through it.

When I lead grief support, I don’t come in with easy answers. Loss changes everything, and no two people carry it the same way. My role is to create a space where people can be honest about their sorrow, their questions, even their anger—and to remind them that they are not alone in it.

Our hope is rooted in Christ, especially in moments like the Resurrection of Jesus. We believe death is not the end—but that doesn’t take away the weight of loss here and now. Grief is real, and it deserves to be acknowledged.

In our time together, we gently walk through:

  • The reality and stages of grief
  • How faith speaks into suffering
  • The importance of prayer, even when it feels impossible
  • Remembering and honoring loved ones
  • Finding hope without rushing the healing process

Why do we do this? Because grief can be isolating. People often feel like they have to carry it quietly or “be strong” for others. But the Church is meant to be a place where no one suffers alone—where burdens are shared, and where Christ meets us in our pain.

From my perspective, this ministry is about presence more than words.

Sometimes that means listening without interrupting.
Sometimes it means sitting in silence.
Sometimes it means gently pointing someone back to hope when they can’t see it themselves.

I don’t expect anyone to have the “right” way of grieving. What matters is that they show up, as they are.

Over time, something begins to shift—not that the loss disappears, but that it becomes something carried differently. Surrounded by others, grounded in faith, and sustained by grace, people begin to find light again, even in the middle of sorrow.

And if we do this well, no one leaves “finished” with grief—
but they do leave knowing they don’t have to walk through it alone.

Catholics offer grief support to accompany those who are suffering, ensuring no one walks through loss alone but is upheld by prayer, community, and compassion. Rooted in the hope of the Resurrection of Jesus, this support helps individuals find meaning, healing, and the promise of life beyond death.
