Reflection
The word Advent comes from the Latin “adventus” and means coming: the imminent coming of something or someone who is arriving and who, in addition, we wait ardently.
Advent is a time of waiting, waiting-memory of the first and humble coming of the Savior in our mortal flesh; waiting-supplication of the last and glorious coming of Christ, Lord of history and universal Judge. It is also a time of conversion, conversion, to which the liturgy of this time frequently invites, through the voice of the prophets and above all of John the Baptist: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt 3, 2). ). And it is also a time of joyful hope that the salvation already realized by Christ (Rom 8: 24-25) and the realities of grace already present in the world reach their maturity and fullness, that the promise becomes a possession, faith, vision and we become like Christ, the one who comes, because we will see him as he is (see 1Jn 3, 2).
Therefore, in Advent we celebrate the mystery of the Coming of the Lord in a joyful attitude, made of vigilance, expectation and welcome. Our life is presented, with always new astonishment, before the intimate mystery of a God who has become man. This is a mystery that Advent prepares, Christmas celebrates and the Epiphany manifests.
