Marriage Preparation
The Catechism emphasizes that Christian marriage reflects something much deeper—it is a living image of Christ’s love for His Church. That means the love between husband and wife is meant to be sacrificial, enduring, and life-giving.

I look forward to helping you build a strong, faith-centered foundation rooted in communication, commitment, and sacramental love.
Deacon Toby Green
Approach to Family Ministry
Marriage preparation in the Catholic Church isn’t just a requirement—it’s a responsibility I take seriously, because what we’re preparing you for is not simply a wedding day, but a lifelong vocation.
When I walk with couples through this process, my goal is to help them understand what the Church teaches about marriage: that it is a sacrament, a visible sign of God’s grace, designed to reflect the faithful, total, and life-giving love of Christ. Rooted in the teaching of the Church and affirmed in documents like the Catechism of the Catholic Church, marriage is not just a contract—it’s a covenant.
But more than teaching concepts, I’m here to accompany you.
We talk about the real things:
- Communication and conflict
- Expectations and roles
- Finances and decision-making
- Openness to life and raising children
- Prayer and spiritual leadership in the home
Why do we do this? Because marriage is hard—and it’s also holy. The Church wants you to enter into it freely, intentionally, and with a clear understanding of what you’re promising. Too many couples prepare endlessly for the wedding, but very little for the marriage itself. This process exists to change that.
From my perspective, marriage prep is about slowing things down long enough to ask the deeper questions:
- Are you ready to give yourself completely to this person?
- Do you understand what it means to love sacrificially?
- Are you prepared to let God be at the center of your relationship?
I don’t expect perfection. What I look for is honesty, openness, and a willingness to grow.
At its best, marriage preparation becomes more than a checklist—it becomes the foundation of a shared life rooted in faith, strengthened by truth, and sustained by grace.
And if we do it well, you won’t just leave prepared for a wedding day…
you’ll leave equipped for a lifetime.
